How to answer: why should we hire you? Examples

Job interviews can be tricky sometimes – especially some questions. Often the simplest questions in an interview can be the hardest ones to answer. One example of such a question is: why should we hire you? You would think that you should highlight your achievements and praise your accomplishments, but this is not the best approach because you can come out as arrogant.

Think about this question “why should we hire you?’’ like this: hiring managers are really asking, “What makes you the best fit for this position?” Your answer to this question should be a concise sales pitch that explains what you have to offer the employer. You need to be unique and separate yourself from the rest of the crowd. Project confidence with these answers to this question:

Example 1

“From what you explained about this job, this position requires someone who is a quick learner, who can adapt quickly, and who is independent. I enjoy working in such an environment. In my previous position, I was able to achieve XYZ in a month without knowing the software. I learned on the go and I was able to navigate and find answers on my own. It seems that this position fits my curiosity and it perfectly aligns with my goals”.

Explanation: try to connect your previous experience to a new job. The more descriptive and accurate you can get, and by showing the impact, the better your chances of landing the job. Repeating the facts and job responsibilities will also give the hiring managers assurance that you know what this position entails.

Example 2

“I’m glad you asked and thank you for this. You explained how leadership qualities are a bonus for this position. In my 5 years of experience as a team lead, I successfully managed various teams with different skills and with different backgrounds. This shows my adaptiveness and EQ. I was able to achieve all product goals and as a team, we developed new team leadership KPI’s. This is what I can bring to this position”.

Explanation: try to use concrete examples and tie them to the new position.

Example 3

“As you explained earlier, the perfect person for this job would be someone with great communication skills. During my summer internship, I learned how to ask relevant questions that helped me do my job effectively. This was my first job, but I was able to communicate professionally with all level managers. this experience has helped me grow on a personal and professional level, and I am ready to apply these important skills to this job”.

Explanation: even though you don’t have a lot of work experience, don’t worry. Emphasize small tasks and your learning experience. Even volunteering experience counts.

The important this remember is that you need to tell a story, instead of just giving hard facts and memorizing your generic answers.

You need to keep this short and focused. Select two or three qualities that are relevant to the job and then elaborate.

Lastly, show how you can add value. this last answer is not just about you, but also about the company. This is your chance to tell the interviewer why you would be an invaluable employee.
