How to write a resume summary?

A resume summary is a professional statement at the top of your resume – a two to three-sentence long statement that describes your experience, qualities, and skills. It’s like an elevator pitch where you introduce yourself to the employer or whoever is reading your resume. A person reading your resume then decides whether you have the necessary skills for the job. If you have more than 3 years of experience, then you can write your resume summary. A resume summary is a great opportunity to tailor your resume to the job that you are applying for. So, how should you write your resume summary?

1. Describe your strong and most important experiences and skills

You want to leave a good impression and highlight your accomplishments. That is why it’s important to mention your best skills and how those ties to your previous job and how those skills will help the company that you are applying to.

2. Review the job description and include keywords specific to the job

Your resume will probably go through the ATS system that scans your resume before it goes to HR hands. Meaning, a robot scans your resume and looks for relevant keywords that match the job description. That’s why it’s important to review the job description and include keywords that are specific to the industry or company.

3. Limit the summary to 3 or 5 sentences and include metrics

Your summary shouldn’t be too long, but it needs to include metrics. For example, how much the revenue increased, what was customer retention, how many projects did you work on, and so on.
